Bonnie Boilini Baxter firstname.lastname@example.org A founder of Southold Dance Theater in South Bend, Indiana, Bonnie became Artistic Director in 1982, creating many Modern dances, teaching and overseeing the development of the company. Growing up in rural North Judson, Indiana, Bonnie first assisted her dance teacher while she was in high school and received her early training primarily with Virginia Bays on the campus of Culver Academies. As a student at DePauw University she continued to work closely with area children and studied with Margaret Dietz, a contemporary of Hanya Holm and Doris Humphrey. Bonnie was a featured performer in several of her works. Bonnie studied with Charles Weidman, Merce Cunningham and Martha Graham School of Dance all of which had a great influence on her teaching and choreography. In the fall of 1975, she opened Dancenter, a dance studio dedicated to quality training and experiences in both modern dance and ballet. She started the formal dance program at Culver Academies, the Early Childhood Development Centers at the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College and Stanley Clark School as well as at several preschools. Bonnie has served on the Boards of the Michiana Arts and Sciences Council, the Arts Literacy Task Force, the Indiana Arts Commission dance panel and Firefly Festival. In 2002, Bonnie received the prestigious “Life of A Child” Award from South Bend’s Memorial Health Services for dedicating her life to enriching the area’s children’s lives through dance and the performing arts. It has always been and remains today Bonnie’s goal to bring quality training to young movers. In the fall of 2005 Bonnie opened the Children's Dance Workshop at the Dancenter in Granger. Stacy Tucker Andrew Stacy is from Beverly Shores, Indiana. She began her performing career in Sale Lake City, Utah, touring with Virginia Tanner and the Children's Dance Theatre. After receiving her degree in dance education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985, she became a founding member of the Melrose Motion Company, performing throughout the Midwest and New York City. She has studied with Judith Moss, Bill Evans and Tigger Benford. Since 1990, Stacy has taught in the Michiana area including Dancenter and Southold Dance Theater. Ms. Andrew has recently been assisting the development of the dance program at Clay High School in South Bend and choreographing their musicals.
Dara Cone Dara Cone, our ballet instructor, is an Elkhart, Indiana resident who studied ballet with Nadine Thornton, Elkhart; Ellis-DuBolay, Chicago; and Joffrey Ballet, New York City. She attended the University of Utah as a ballet major. Dara joined the faulty of the State University of New York at Cortland and directed the classical ballet program there for six years. She was also Program Director for the Cortland Arts Council. For three years she taught ballet at Western Conservatory. Dara is an excellent teacher with a gift for helping students improve. Many of her students are continuing their Ballet in universities and professional settings throughout the country.
Corey Neumann will be graduating from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Philosophy. At the university she has had the opportunity to dance in works by well renowned choreographers such as Gerald Arpino, Antony Tudor, and Loie Fuller as well as repertory by faculty members. Corey was also a member of Western’s performing ensemble Western Dance Project where she performed repertory at many different area schools. She has taught dance to students ages two through adult, and has experience in both rehearsal direction and choreography for a pre-professional dance school and several other studios. A student of the Lee Honors College at Western, Corey has also been awarded several scholarships such as Outstanding Dance Major, and the Gernant Family College of Fine Arts scholarship.
Claire Sandler has been teaching dance classes for children and adults since 1996, first in Madison, Wisconsin, then in Minneapolis, and at the Children’s Dance Workshop since 2005. A licensed elementary school teacher, Claire enjoys sharing her love of dance with her students, and watching them grow in confidence and self-expression. As a dancer Claire trained at Madison School of Ballet, West High, (where Stacy Andrew introduced her to the wonders of Modern Dance!) the University of Wisconsin, and Zenon Dance School in Minneapolis. She also can be found dancing through town with her two children.
